A few bearings before you go

“Active” describes the light’s navigational use, not public access. Private ownership and an active beacon do not mean a tower or its grounds are open. Check the operator’s visitor information before setting out.

This directory includes standing historic buildings, relocated lights, and the Long Tail Point ruin. Green Island and Menasha are omitted because their historic lighthouses no longer stand. Racine Reef’s historic lighthouse was demolished; its modern replacement navigation structure is outside this historic directory.

Heights describe the physical tower where documented, rather than the focal elevation of its beam above the water. Measurements may differ among references; range-light pairs show both towers. Undocumented heights and disputed ownership are explicitly noted.
